Shore Side Sailing with Horizon Antigua

Enjoy the best of both worlds with a NEW ‘Shore Side Sailing’ package which has been launched by Horizon Yacht Charters Antigua, an American Sailing Association (ASA) affiliated facility offering first-class tuition.

This package combines 5 days of ASA sailing tuition on board a Bavaria 42 yacht while staying in a waterfront villa that has its own 50’ dock for 7 nights. Whether a group wants to learn to sail, take day sails to improve upon their skills or just relax “at home’ and enjoy the range of shore-side facilities, this package suits one and all.

The ASA program has structured levels of sailing standards, which are examined at progressive certification levels. ASA 101, 103 and 104 courses are available with this package. The waterfront villa offers two double bedrooms en suite plus a large waterfront patio, DVD, stereo and TV. Horizon has a special promotion offering complimentary ASA course materials, two free days of course instruction and two free nights of accommodation (based on a minimum seven night booking). Prices, based on a 5 day ASA course and 7 nights accommodation for four people, start from as little as US$655 per person.

Jackie Ashford, Director of Horizon Antigua comments “this is the perfect place to learn to sail as we have consistent trade winds and calm seas. For those in the group who are not keen to sail, they can enjoy two white sand beaches, a large swimming pool, 18-hole golf course and gym, and numerous restaurants and bars in this 300 acre Marina complex”.

ASA courses are also available without the villa option on Horizon Antigua’s fleet of yachts providing overnight accommodation aboard.

Horizon Yacht Charters has an extensive fleet of yachts – catamarans and monohulls - throughout the Caribbean with bases in Antigua, St Martin, Grenada and in the British Virgin Islands. Seven night charters are available from as little as US$1695 – US$9295. Horizon is the authorized Caribbean dealer for Fountaine Pajot catamarans and the regional dealer for Bavaria Yachts.

New day trip options from Antigua to Montserrat

Holidaymakers in Antigua can take advantage of an exciting excursion to Montserrat with lower-priced day trip packages by air now available. A ferry service will also return between the two islands in December 2009, providing further options for day-trip, short-stay and longer-term visitors.

Current day trip packages by air now start from US$200 per person (approx. £122) including return air travel, transport within Montserrat, a guided island tour, entrance to the Montserrat Volcano Observatory and lunch at a local restaurant. During the excursion, visitors will be able to view the active Soufrière Hills Volcano and the buried capital Plymouth – the modern-day Pompeii – as well as take a trip through the unspoilt north of Montserrat with its green, verdant landscapes and spectacular coastal views. Day-trippers will receive Montserrat’s distinctive green shamrock stamp in their passports upon arrival – a testament to the island’s Irish heritage.

Christmas Festival
Visitors in December will also have the chance to experience Festival – Montserrat’s carnival – which takes place from 4th December – 1st January 2010.

This event is one of the highlights of the year in Montserrat, showcasing the island’s culture and performing talent.

Amongst the many events taking place are masquerade performances, informal street dancing, a night of steelpan, pageant shows, a Calypso competition and also carol singing on Christmas Day.

The festival will climax on New Year’s Day with a street parade and jump up in the festival village. The full festival calendar is available to view at www.VisitMontserrat.com.

Ferry service resumes
Improving access to Montserrat even further, the Government of Montserrat is pleased to announce the return of a ferry service between Antigua and Montserrat from early December 2009. The new service will provide Montserrat with two daily return trips on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Ticketing and timetable information will be available soon at www.visitmontserrat.com.
